It began in France in the 18th century, and continues to be one of the most unusual billiard games today. "It" is carambol, an elegant, subtle and dynamic game played with three balls.
The special tables used for carambol are small. The aim of the game is to be the first to score the number of carambols stipulated in the rules (usually over 30). Playing off three or more cushions with your own ball, you have to strike both the other two balls, as many times as possible, in a row. At the same time you have to hit the red ball with your white ball so that it also hits your opponent-s white ball. If you miss, it-s your opponent-s turn.
In this game it is important to hit as many carambols in a row as possible, and so players try to ensure the next shot will not be too difficult when playing the ball.
Only top experts can manage more than 100 carambols in a row. Watching the game can be a pleasure for anyone, even those who are not familiar with pool. In carambol, players use the full range of pool skills.
Unfortunately, carambol tables are not to be found in all Moscow pool halls. However, you can play on a normal pool table with pockets. At one time carambol with five balls and pockets was popular in Russia. Sadly this original game of chance is forgotten today. These days three balls are enough for most.
