The word most often used to describe Sarah Brightman these days is "angelic," because of her heavenly voice. But two other words also come to mind when talking about the veteran British-born singer – "versatile" and "sexy."

"Versatile" because of her varied singing and performing styles. She's done disco and pop, starred in Andrew Lloyd Webber's "Cats" and "Phantom of the Opera" and won a Grammy for her crossover "Time To Say Goodbye" duet with Andrea Bocelli. "Sexy" because, well, that you can tell just by looking at her.

Brightman, who will be appearing in Moscow on Nov. 20 in a charity gala concert promoted by ROSInterfest and also starring Jose Carreras at the Bolshoi Theater, has had to work at developing her many musical styles. As for being sexy, that seemed to come naturally.

"I didn't start out trying to be sexy," she said in an excerpt from the book "The Musicals of Andrew Lloyd Webber" by Keith Richmond. "It just happened that way. I don't mind at all. It's quite a fun thing. Anyway, you'd be surprised how difficult it is to dance with lots of clothes on."

Brightman's versatility is proven in her latest album, "La Luna," on which she sings in five different languages. Her soprano voice livens up the music of Rachmaninov, Beethoven, Handel and Dvorak. She also performs "Scarborough Fair" and the Procol Harum hit "Whiter Shade of Pale." Jazz is represented by her rendition of "Gloomy Sunday."

"Being varied is something I do instinctively and naturally," Brightman said, according to her official Website, www.sarah-brightman.com. "I feel a tremendous sense of accomplishment. Everything is in tune: the voice, the type of music, who I am and who people think I am. I've been trying to find my own niche, a style very much my own. At last I've found it."

Of course, her musical theater career was closely connected to her personal life. In 1990, she married Webber. The marriage didn't last, but Brightman is still remembered for her portrayal of Christine from "Phantom."

Brightman has recorded several crossover hits and sold 5 million albums worldwide in the past two years, according to her Website. She hit platinum with the duet with Bocelli in 1997. The song went gold or platinum in 21 countries and it ranks as the biggest-selling single ever in Germany.

She followed up with the 1999 hit "Eden," which hit No. 1 on Billboard Magazine's Classical Crossover chart. Also in 1999, her "One Night in Eden" tour was seen by 200,000 people and included 60 sold-out events.
