Kremlin cup holds court

S ome of the world's leading tennis stars are heading into the final weekend of play at Moscow's Kremlin Cup tournament at Olympiisky Stadium. Action will continue Friday, Saturday and Sunday, starting each day at 1:30 p.m.

The women's singles action will be without Anna Kournikova, who suffered a setback in her comeback from a foot injury when she was upset by fellow Russian Galina Fokina in her opening match. Fokina, 17, is ranked 248th in the world, but she defeated Kournikova 6-2, 1-6, 6-2, for her first victory on the WTA tour.

Kournikova remained in the tournament, however, by advancing to the second round in her doubles match with partner Martina Hingis with a 6-0, 6-3 victory on Monday.

Russia's Yevgeny Kafelnikov, a four-time Kremlin Cup winner, took an early victory in the men's singles, but he was eliminated in the doubles competiton in the first round.
