1. Japro

This Japanese supermarket offers a wide selection of Japanese beers, wines and vegetables, most of which is unfamiliar to Muscovites. If you suddenly need some genuine soy sauce, this is the place to buy it.

2. Indian Spices Shop

This small Indian store has a great selection of Indian and Ceylon teas as well as beans and other traditional Indian ingredients, including delicious and authentic Basmati rice.

3. Armenia

Armenia is one of the few specialized stores from the Soviet era that is still around today. Here you’ll find Armenian cheeses, lavash, dolma, cognac, basturma, bakhlava and plenty other Armenian delicacies.

4. Kalinka-Stockmann

A good number of this store’s customers are foreigners, but this is probably because it offers an extensive range of food products that can satisfy the most cosmopolitan of tastes.

5. Megacenter Italia

Though this Italian supermarket is located quite a way out from the center, it’s worth the trip because it’s just the place to buy what you need for a taste of Italy.

6. Yakitoria

If you have an urge to make your own sushi, this is the store for you. You’ll find everything here from rice to fish and on to exotic seafood, seaweed, Japanese noodles, tea, and even the implements you eat all this with.

7. Tyan Ke Lun

All manner of Chinese products are available at this Chinese supermarket. True, Muscovites seem to find some of them a bit bewildering, but if you can’t read Chinese, there is at least always a description of what you’re thinking of eating written in Russian, too.

8. Mechet (Mosque)

Need a delicious piece of freshly slaughtered lamb or horse? Go straight to the mosque on Prospekt Mira. On weekends and Muslim holidays they sell meat that is very fresh indeed.

9. Syusi Pusi

This is a takeaway service located next door to the family restaurant of the same name. The cuisine here is European, but of all the varied dishes available we particularly recommend satsivi and pancakes with meat.

10. Jagannat

This is a spot for healthy vegetarian food; you can eat in, take out or buy veggie products in the little store. The cuisine isn’t from any particular country, though there is a certain Eastern flavor about it.
