A new Miss Russia has been specially crowned for the upcoming Miss Universe contest. Yulia Akhonkova will be representing Russia at the Miss Universe contest to take place June 3 in Panama.
The last Miss Russia, Svetlana Korolyova, will not be able to take part in the Miss Universe competition because she won the latest Miss Europe contest. The competitions rules do not allow one person to hold both titles at once.
Because of this unusual situation, the organizers of the Miss Russia contest announced a closed competition throughout all of its regional branches. Five contestants were shortlisted at the by-photograph stage, and recently they came together at beautiful 19th-century mansion in Moscow, where the finals took place. Akhonkova, 17, was chosen among the five, and will compete for Russia at the Miss Universe finals in Panama in two months time.
