Moscow’s club scene is very central, whereas most people live outside of the center. Tired of commuting on Friday and Saturday nights? Are you looking for something a little more local? Of course, so is half the population of Moscow.

The Sunset Cafe is not the most convenient of clubs to get to if you live in the center but for the people who live in the southern suburbs, it’s a dream come true. Finally, a reputable club goes south! The Sunset Cafe is a convenient answer for you southerners who are looking for some close-to-home fun.

Located at metro Chertanovskaya on the south leg of the gray line, The Sunset Cafe is a short walk from the exit. The Sunset Cafe is located in the Kaspii Shopping Center, which seemed a little scary and not exactly a good location for a happening nightspot. But luckily, I was soon to be proved wrong.

The Sunset Cafe has quite a classy background. Art-director Nikolai Khloplanov (formerly of hip nightclub Gorod) has managed to bring Gorod’s former high level of music, decor and clientele to this off-the-beaten-track establishment.

The club part of The Sunset Cafe is successfully combined with a cafe (hence the name) that serves up pretty good food (compared to most other clubs) at fairly reasonable prices (again, compared to most other clubs).

Drinks at The Sunset Cafe are well mixed and tasty. The prices are reasonable, especially when taking into account the quality beverages. The same drink at an upscale center club would be three times as expensive.

In all, my experience at The Sunset Cafe was pretty satisfying. However, I’m still out of the loop. I don’t live in the center or the south. So until something goes north, I’ll have to continue making the commute.
