
Moscow is one of the last places on earth still unpoked by Starbucks imperial flagpole, which might be good for independent business people but what about those of us who want a quick frappacino? Fear not, here are 10 great places to grab a cool coffee.
1. Cream
It may be one of the hottest cafes of the season, but Creams drinks are ice-cold. They include the classic frappacino (60 rubles), frappes (80-100 rubles), ice-cream coffee (150 rubles) and energy-infused iced Mate tea in five different flavors (100 rubles). Plus, you can get your fix 24 hours per day!
2. Coffee Bean
Moscows king of coffee serves an assortment of summer coffees including plain cold coffee (58 rubles), iced melange and a range of other cool coffee drinks. Get into summer with the "Tropicana," a cocktail with a fruity kick. Their hours are Mon.-Thur. 8 a.m.-10 p.m.; Fri. and Sat. 8 a.m.-11 p.m.; and Sun. 9 a.m.-10 p.m.
3. Coffeemania
Sip on such classic coolers as coffee with vanilla ice cream and whipped cream (145 rubles) or iced coffee with lemon and sugar syrup (60 rubles). More maniacal brews are also available, such as cold coffee with orange juice (89 rubles). But no coffee with beer? Why?!
4. Kofe In
This classy cafe has it all, a great location, lovely food, friendly staff and stupendous coffee. Order a strawberry parfait with truffles accompanied by an ice cream coffee glasse (90 rubles) or a good ol frappe (75 rubles).
5. Kofetun
So named because it serves tons of coffee, this cafe offers more than 30 drinks, most of which can be served with alcohol or ice. For the complete caffeine indulgence have a slice of cappuccino cake to go with your cool liquid fix.
6. Loft
Open daily from 9 a.m. to midnight, Loft, with its lofty Lubyanka location is a good place to order coffee with ice cream, served before your eyes in a silver chalice (150 rubles). Or start the day with a "business breakfast" accompanied with a cold coffee (110 rubles, 150 with a drop of Baileys)
7. Coffee House
This very popular chain serves all the coffee you could want and, for all you tea-totallers out there, no less than seven flavors of iced tea. Cakes, sandwiches and other snacks are also ready at your disposal.
8. Persona Cafe
Heres a cafe in a Stalin castle with very comfortable couches and good well-priced food. Famous writers have eaten here, and we suspect that they too sipped iced espressos in the height of summer.
9. Delifrance
Check out Delifrances "coffee cocktails" (80 rubles), a milkshake consisting of cold milk, coffee and your choice of flavored syrup. The chocolate is good (not very chocolatey though if you like rich flavors). Banana, vanilla and others are also on offer.
10. Totem
Theres a good selection of summer drinks here. Relax in the futuristic Mayan decor, hum along to world music and lap up a cold latte (90 rubles) or iced tea (60 rubles). Stronger potions such as "Coffee Malibu" (170 rubles), "Breeze," "Amadeus," and "Kreolo" will fill you with animal spirit.
