Despite Moscow’s northern location, summers can sure get hot. Cool off with an ice-cream treat.

1. Street Vendors
Buy a cone from the clear-topped stands for 10 rubles. Look out for the Jean G and Magia brands whose cheapest treats cost 6 rubles and 8 rubles respectively.

2. Starlite Diner
$1.35 per scoop. Sundaes ($4.95) are yummilicious. The banana splits ($6.95) are also grand. For the ultimate ice cream indulgence splurge on the Kitchen Sink ($20.95).

3. Nestle
The Nestle brand store on Novokuznetskaya Ul. (near Paveletskaya metro station) sells packaged ice cream at half the usual price. The Nestle Extreme costs 8 rubles (18 rubles at kiosks).

4. Baskin Robbins
You can buy over 31 different types of ice cream served in waffle cones and baskets, cups and crispy cones. One scoop costs 30 rubles, two cost 58 rubles. The Dyetsky Mir location has child-sized furniture.

5. Zolotaya Vobla
"The Golden Barrel" serves up a delicious lemon ice cream in a real live hollowed-out lemon. Mmm-mmm! Priced at about 150 rubles.

6. Supermarkets and produkti
OK, so I’m pointing out the obvious, but here’s what you’ll find frozen: Mars bars, ice cream cakes, Movenpick’s, and Baskin Robbins’ tubs of double chocolate fudge.

7. Shokoladnitsa
This popular cafe chain offers vanilla, caramel and nut, chocolate, mango and melon and strawberry ice cream for 40 rubles a scoop. Enjoy your cool sweet with hot coffee or tea.

Rostik’s
After you’ve enjoyed your chicken, get an ice cream cone for 6 rubles. That’s even cheaper than a packet of gum!

Patio
On the second floor of the Marriott Grand Hotel, is a cafe that presents a delicious summer menu including a selection of different ice-cream desserts, nine kinds of sherbet in servings of 555g ($11), ice cream and sherbet ($7), or lemon sherbet with orange juice.

Coffee Bean
Ice cream sells for 40 rubles a scoop. The good-but-small milkshakes include ice cream, as do many of the delicious desserts such as the berry strudel and apple pie.
