MOSCOW — Norilsk Nickel plans to spin off its gold producing units, as the press department of the company has reported. The newly established company will be created on the basis of Norilsk Nickel's Russian and foreign oil producing assets, namely assets of Russian-based Polyus and 20 percent in South African Gold Fields Ltd. as the board of directors of Norilsk Nickel has decided at a meeting. The proposed restructuring will result in establishing a large gold producing firm with significant growth potential and assets in Russia listing in Russia and abroad as soon as possible after the restructuring is complete.
