Medical workers assigned to work with Covid-19 patients receive hazard pay to help compensate them for the additional risk. A significant number of medical workers across they country have succumbed to the virus and many are working longer hours while also dealing with added stress.
According to Interfax, doctors qualify for an additional 80,000 rubles ($1000) or more per month over and above their regular pay. Adjusted for cost of living, this is enough to support a family virtually anywhere in the country — residents of downtown Moscow might be an exception to this rule. Nurses receive an additional 50,000 rubles ($650), and other medical support workers 25,000 ($325).
This week, the government allocated continued funding for the program through 2020.
